Senate Bill 157, the Governor’s Ag Development Legislation that calls for revisions to the zoning and permitting process has been introduced and is in the Senate State Affairs Committee awaiting action. South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association President Eric Jennings says his group backs the measure. He says if the bill passes, it will help boost the state’s ag economy by streamlining the process for development.

He says the legislation doesn’t take local control away from county or zoning boards.

Jennings says the bill allows any aggrieved person to an ag development to appeal the granting of the permit by the county or zoning boards.

Several agricultural groups including the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association are supporting the legislation.
