During their first meeting, the South Dakota Blue Ribbon Taskforce on Teachers and Students was presented with lots of information and data related to how the current funding formula is structured. Tami Darnall, Chief Financial Officer for the Department of Education, spoke to the group explaining where the dollars come from to currently pay for public schools.

After going through the current formula and explaining in detail how dollars are calculated and allocated, she left the taskforce with some advice.

The taskforce also heard presentations from the Bureau of Finance and Management and the Department of Revenue.
The next meeting is scheduled for August 19th in Pierre.
