The National Corn Grower’s Association is launching the second year of its BeSure program. That effort is aimed at helping pollinators by promoting best management practices and habitat creation annually. South Dakota Beekeeper and Honey producer Bret Adee is pleased with NCGA stepping forward to help bee health which in turn helps all of agriculture.
The BeSure program also centers on promoting proper use of neonicotinoids to protect honeybees and other pollinators critical to the food supply and ecosystem. Adee says those chemicals are very powerful and using them judiciously is critical for bee health.
He says another step that can be taken to protect pollinators and improve bee health is more scouting by producer prior to applying any chemical treatment.
NCGA is conducting their BeSure program through July.
