The Saving America’s Pollinators Act has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. The measure is designed to protect the health of honeybees and other critical pollinators. The bill calls for suspending the use of neonicotinoids. They’ve been linked to the declining pollinator populations. South Dakota beekeeper and honey producer Bret) Adee says using a scouting program is better than completely banning neonicotinoids.
Estimates are the U.S. lost one third of honeybee colonies between 2016 and 2017. Adee says the loss at 40 percent is actually higher than that.
He says pollinators are very beneficial to other crops.
The Saving America’s Pollinator Act is co sponsored by Congressmen Earl Blumenauer of Oregon and Jim McGovern of Massaschusetts.
