The beef industry plays a huge role in South Dakota’s economy and that was center stage during the SDSU Beef Bowl at Brookings on Saturday. SDSU Animal Science Department Head Joe Cassady says they served about 1000 pounds of beef at the Beef Bowl Barbeque.

Cassady says the Beef Bowl is also a celebration of the state’s cattle industry and the contributions it makes to the economy in South Dakota.

They also recognized the Friend of the Beef Industry which Cassady says this year went to Dakotaland Feeds.

The South Dakota Beef Industry Council handed out promotional items and hosted a Beef Tailgater competition won by Still Hares. Board Member Gary Deering served as a judge.

Deering says they also highlighted the Council’s Build Your Base with Beef Program as the SDSU football team participates in that program. The Beef Bowl culminated with a big SDSU win over Dixie State.
