Most consumers are several generations from the farm, but at Ag Day at the Pavillion in Sioux Falls on Saturday they learned about the state’s number one industry-agriculture. Kaia Hedrick is special projects coordinator at the Sioux Falls Pavillion and says around 2,500 Sioux Falls area consumers participated in hands-on educational activities about farming.
Amanda Eben was part of the South Dakota Soybean’s Hungry for Truth booth where families cold win prizes for correctly answering questions about ag trivia questions.
Participants also got to see various live farm animals. Rebekah Ihnen with South Dakota Farm Bureau says the lambs at their display are always a hit especially since many Sioux Falls kids have never interacted with livestock.
Deron Ruesch is a District Conservationist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service and says they were teaching kids about the importance of soil health in food production.
Hedrick says the kids love learning where their food comes from, which was their goal they started the event in 2004.
