The South Dakota Division of Wildland Fire continues to warn of a high fire danger in the western part of the state. South Dakota Secretary of Agriculture Lucas Lentsch says the environment is ripe right now for wild fires.
He asks that all persons working or recreating outdoors in western South Dakota this fall to please be fire safe in all activities in wildland areas.
Wildland Fire and local volunteer fire departments responded to three fires last week, from Wednesday night through Thursday night. The South Buffalo Gap fire, estimated at over 200 acres in size, was started by lightning Thursday evening northeast of Oral. Small fires were extinguished near Edgemont and the Angostura Reservoir.
