The new South Dakota Ag in the Classroom program is thriving, especially during the pandemic. It was developed by Ground Works Midwest. Associate Executive Director Cindy Heidelberger Larson says with more teachers and parents educating students online last spring they saw a big increase in the use of their curriculum.

She says the interest in especially at home learning activities has continued to grow through the fall.

Larson says they revamped the program in 2019 and there is curriculum for all ages, but for 4th graders the lessons and activities are tied to South Dakota history and blend agriculture into the mix. The goal is to educate young consumers about where their food comes from.

She says they welcome videos on agriculture to teach students and input from those involved in agriculture to keep the program relevant with today’s industry.
