The Republic of South Africa has not yet agreed to lift its barriers on U.S. exports of pork, poultry and beef. National Pork Producers Council President Elect John Weber says it’s been a long standing problem that still needs to be remedied.

Weber is hoping by lifting South Africa’s trade preference status it will lead to better access for U.S. pork. He says that market has huge potential.

Weber says NPPC intends to keep working with the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office in getting better market access in South Africa as well as other countries.

South Africa currently is allowing a limited listing of pork cuts from the United States.
