The National Sorghum Checkoff referendum has passed by an overwhelming 96.5 percent margin. USDA’s Ag Marketing Service announced the vote was 1,160 in favor and 42 votes against. National Sorghum Producers Check Off Director, Florentino Lopez says the vote shows the program is working.
Lopez says the results are positive for both farmers and the industry.
He says farmers in South Dakota and Nebraska were unanimous in their support of the sorghum check off.
Lopez says the sorghum check off is based on value. The assessment is currently 0.6% of the sorghum sold by producers.
