The Turner County South Dakota Zoning Board held a hearing Thursday on a CAFO permit application for Sonstegard Farms. The company wants to build a 2.5 million hen cage-free operation near Parker. Zoning Board member Ron Globke says they tabled the matter until their July meeting.
Globke says he hasn’t decided how he’ll vote on the application and wants a chance to review the information presented to his board at Thursday’s meeting.
He says there was a good turnout at the meeting with the group equally split between those opposing the permit approval and those supporting it.
Sonstegard Farm’s is proposing their 2.5 million head cage-free chicken farm to be located about two miles northwest of Parker. The farm would include an egg processing facility as well as a feed mill.
