With snow and cold over most of the northern plains now, that leads to worries of a long, cold winter.

Todd Heitkamp, at the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, says there looks to be a bit of a break in the cold coming our way…

 

Heitkamp says if we see more of a southerly flow, that sets the stage for heavier snow…

 

Heitkamp says the odds of an El Nino this winter is still about fifty fifty. Normally an El Nino means a milder winter for the northern plains.
