Some residents of eastern Dodge County Nebraska are up-in-arms about a proposed poultry processing plant that would be located in the Fremont or Hooper (HUPP-per) area. Randy Rupert is a spokesperson for Nebraska Communities United and says they are tired of the secrecy of this entire development.
Rupert says The Company itself is Crider Foods based in Georgia. Rupert says they have contacted the Fremont Community Development Center and the Dodge County Board of Supervisors to get more information on the proposed plant. He is also very upset that there was a big meeting Sunday afternoon on a farm near Hooper but it was only for select officials and the public wasn’t invited to attend. He says the public deserves answers.
Fremont Mayor Scott Getzschman (GETCH-man) says that meeting was basically for the media so they could ask questions and get the information out on the table. He says it makes sense to have an agriculture based business in an agricultural community.
Getzschman says this is a constantly moving project and there will be a time for the public to comment on the proposed facility. Details from the meeting revealed the actual companies name would be Lincoln Premium Poultry which is connected to Crider Foods. The processed poultry would go to Costco.
