The partial government shutdown continues to hit agriculture, with some farmers reporting they are not able to cash Farm Service Agency guaranteed loans checks. Nate Franzen, President of the Agribusiness Division for First Dakota National Bank in Yankton says farmers with electronic or direct deposit aren’t impacted, but a small percentage still get physical checks and that is where the problem starts.
He says they are working with their clients to provide bridge loans, but if the financial institution is not able or unwilling to do that some farmers are in a real tough spot trying to pay their bills.
Franzen says new FSA loans are also caught in limbo.
And he says that also includes CCC or Commodity Credit Corporation loans on grain inventory.
