Last week’s snow storm that hit Western South Dakota helped bring some minor relief from this year’s drought although more moisture is needed for full recovery. Jameson Brennan is research and Extension Livestock Grazing Specialist with SDSU. He doesn’t anticipate a large lift in forage production from the recent snow but it does provide some help.
He says 2021’s been a difficult year with the drought really injuring hay and overall forage production.
Breenan says it’s always best to plan for dry seasons that bring the type of drought we’ve seen.
Brennan says for more tips on handling dry seasons you can check with them at the SDSU West River Ag Center or go to their website.
