The South Dakota Board of Educational Standards, meeting in Aberdeen, heard over three hours of public input on the proposed new Social Studies Standards. Those would revise the teaching of social studies and history in grades K through Twelve.
Representative Sue Peterson of Sioux Falls was a member of the original standards study group. She criticized the South Dakota Education Association, the Associated School Boards among others as ineffective…..

Northern State University professor Jon Schaff (shaw-ff) gave a rebuttal and said students will rise to the standards taught….

The Board will hold three more public meetings before final standards are approved sometime next spring.
