South Dakota State women’s soccer player Maggie Smither was named the Summit League’s Female Athlete of the Month for October, announced Tuesday by the league office.

Smither started and won all seven games for the Jackrabbits between the pipes in the month of October with six clean sheets. The sophomore goalkeeper did not allow a goal in the final 556 minutes of game action in the month and guided her team to the No. 1 seed in The Summit League Championship. The Sioux Falls, South Dakota native earned Summit League Defensive Player of the Week honors Oct. 23.

Named the Summit League’s Goalkeeper of the Year for the 2017 season, Smither wrapped up her sophomore season with a league-leading 0.86 goals average, racking up 83 saves on the season with six complete shutouts, assisting in two additional shutouts. She was a key component of State’s nine-game win streak and 11-game unbeaten streak, tallying 25 total saves in league play with a 0.15 goals against average.
