Slim Prospects for Napa to Platte Rail Service

Slim Prospects for Napa to Platte Rail Service

The Napa to Platte rail line in southeast South Dakota has not seen regular rail service since the 1980s and that probably won’t change anytime soon.
State Transportation Department Secretary Joel Jundt says there isn’t much interest from any potential buyers of that state owned line…

Jundt says they do get occasional questions about it….

The line had been rebuilt from Napa to Tyndall with some service to an elevator in Tabor but Jundt says even that has stopped….

The line was originally built by the Milwaukee Road in the early twentieth century and the state bought it when the Milwaukee Road went bankrupt in the 1980s.
