Former South Dakota men’s basketball player Tre Burnette was chosen as the 92nd overall pick in the 2017 National Basketball Association G-League Draft this past weekend, joining the Sioux Falls Skyforce, an affiliate of the NBA’s Miami Heat.
A native of Madison, Wisconsin, Burnette played two seasons with the Coyotes making 55 starts in 64 games. He led the Coyotes in scoring with 13.2 points per game as a senior, while also leading the team with 6.6 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game. His six double-doubles ranked second in the Summit League.
Burnette’s junior year with South Dakota saw him average 7.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game en route to being named to the Summit League’s all-newcomer team.
Burnette spent the 2016-17 season in the country of Georgia playing for BC Olimpi. He averaged 13.7 points and 8.6 rebounds over 27 games with a season-best 28 points against Batumi. He also collected nine double-doubles throughout the season.
