64 Agricultural groups including the Organization for Competitive Markets have written to the Chairman and Ranking member on the House Ag Committee opposing inclusion in the farm bill of the Protect Interstate Commerce Act. OCM Executive Director Joe Maxwell says the legislation sponsored by Iowa Congressman Steve King removes States rights to regulate the health and safety standards of food products.

He says if the measure is included in the farm bill, any changes would have to be legislated by Congress.

Maxwell says the Protect Interstate Commerce Act if approved would remove all state and local control.

Maxwell says King’s legislation violates the 10th amendment of the U.S. Constitution and would more aptly be called the States Rights Elimination Act.
