Sioux Falls area consumers participated in last night’s Ag United Poultry Crawl to learn more about the poultry industry directly from producers. Ag United President Richard Vasgaurd says this is a progressive supper at three restaurants in downtown Sioux Falls and each course features a poultry product in the recipe.

One of the poultry producers that participated was Scott Ramsdell of Dakota Layers in Flandreau. He says it’s a way to shed a positive light on his industry.

He says he received many questions from the consumers at his table including the difference between caged and non-caged birds, as well as the health impact of the avian influenza that hit his operation in May.

One of the Sioux Falls consumers that attended was Minnehaha County Commissioner Cindy Heiberger. She wanted to learn more about how poultry production, especially the environmental impact and how manure is managed, in preparation for the possible zoning decisions she may face in the future.

Ag United has also organized Pork and Beef Crawls in other areas of the state.
