Early signing day in football produced many dividends for area teams including USD, Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State and Minnesota.
South Dakota head coach Bob Nielson announced the signing of 13 student-athletes to Letters of Intent and added three others who accepted offers of admission. Offensive and defensive linemen compile nearly half the class.
Nebraska inked ten to the first class of new coach Scott Frost including highly regarded quarterback Adrian Martinez from Fresno, Ca.
The Iowa Hawkeyes signed 15 players to letters of intent, a class headlined by quarterback Spencer Petras. The 6-foot-5 Petras, the rare Iowa signee from California, broke school records for yards and touchdowns previously held by current Los Angeles Rams starter Jared Goff.
Iowa State signed 18 players to letters of intent, including quarterback Re-al Mitchell from Bellflower, Ca.
Minnesota’s 26-player recruiting class is the program’s highest-ranked since the turn of the century. The Gophers landed at 28th in the country in the composite rankings at 247Sports.com. The class includes quarterback Vic Viramontes, the top-ranked junior college dual-threat quarterback in the country from California.
