There is no end in sight to the partial government shutdown. Some estimate it is costing the country’s economy $1.2 billion in losses a week. Creighton University Economist Ernie Goss this shutdown has another ripple effect regarding jobs in the private sector. He looks back to the last shutdown in 2013
Goss says if the shutdown continues for weeks it could lead to a recession.
He says hotels, concession and restaurants located near government buildings, museums, federal sites and national parks are feeling the impact. Some are cutting back hours and may have to cut jobs. While the federal employees will be called back to work many of those private sector jobs will be lost for good.
