Some South Dakota schools are opposing a recent mandate that calls for the use of a shot clock during Class A high school basketball games.

The Argus Leader (http://argusne.ws/1h9uNqd ) reports schools are objecting to the directive of the South Dakota High School Activities Association because of the clocks’ price.

The association says it made the change with input from activities directors and superintendents across the state. But some school districts say they wish they had more say.

Dell Rapids School Board member Troy Randall says the association’s move is “ridiculous.” Dell Rapids expects to pay more than $8,000 to buy two clocks each for both its high school and middle school gyms.

The association says the use of the clock is meant to pick up the pace of games.
