This week the House sent to the Senate a short term extension of the surface transportation bill that moves the expiration from November 20 to December 4. Despite that likely short term fix, Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek expects a six year measure to eventually be approved by conferees before the end of the year.

He says it’s positive a long term measure will be approved before 2016 which is a Presidential election year.

Steenhoek says conferees found other sources of funding to put into the transportation legislation.

Part of that new revenue comes from the federal reserve surplus which totals around $40 billion.
