Former South Dakota State University football player Jack Sherlock has been selected as a member of the 2015 U.S. Men’s National Team.

He is expected to play in the International Federation of American World Championship tournament that begins later this week.

A Jackrabbit letterman from 2011-14  as a defensive end, Sherlock recorded a team-best three sacks and ranked second on the team with seven tackles for loss during his senior season — his only year as a starter. The Chicago native played in 46 career games for the Jackrabbits, tallying eight sacks and 15 tackles for loss.

Among the other players on the roster are a pair who played at Sioux Falls and two former Iowa State players. USF alumni include tight end Carrington Hanna and defensive back Robert Virgil. Iowa State players are Ernst Brun, a tight end, and Cliff Stokes, a defensive back.

The fifth IFAF World Championship is a seven-nation tournament held July 9-18 in Canton, Ohio, with the United States opening play against Mexico on July 9. Besides the United States and Mexico, national teams from Australia, Brazil, France, Japan and South Korea are slated to compete. All games will be played at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium and available via live stream on ESPN3.com. The tournament has been held every four years since 1999, with the U.S. winning both times it has competed — in 2007 and 2011.

Sherlock is one of 45 players on the team assembled by USA Football. Former Boise State and Colorado coach Dan Hawkins is the squad’s head coach.

Assistant coach Isaiah Jackson , who will coach the team’s linebackers, gives South Dakota State football another connection in the tournament. Jackson lettered as a linebacker for the Jackrabbits from 2006-09 before embarking on a collegiate coaching career. He is currently the defensive line and special teams coordinator at West Virginia State University.
