The sheep industry is looking at strong demand and prices in the midst of a continued evolution in the market. Iowa State University Extension Sheep Specialist Dan Morrical says right now sheep prices are providing some profit opportunities for producers.

Morrical says however the sheep business has changed over the last three decades as the number of flocks in Iowa is declining, but the flock size is getting bigger. He says the average sheep producer used to have about 30 ewes, but now has 50 to 60.

And he says domestic lamb demand is consistent, but the market place has seen a real transition.

So he says lamb demand is good and not just centered around Easter anymore, which is good news for producers.
