Shareholders of both Dow Chemical and DuPont Company have voted in favor having the two companies merge into an entity called DowDuPont. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen is concerned with that merger and says in the long run it will hurt farmers by decreasing competition and driving up their costs.

He says farmers need to work with members of Congress and the U.S. Justice Department to push back against these types of mergers that lead to anti-trust problems.

Hansen says having less competition in the marketplace always results in a bad outcome.

Following the initial Dow DuPont merger, the companies will then break up into three separate entities. The deal still needs approval from regulators and if it’s approved the deal should close later this year.
