States including Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and 10 others are filing a legal action with the U.S. Supreme Court challenging a California law that requires out of state egg producers to comply with California regulations. The California law says out of state producers have to follow their law in order to sell eggs in their state. That includes having cage free housing for laying hens. National Association of Egg Farmers President Ken Klippen says California’s regulation is unconstitutional.
He says egg prices have gone up dramatically nationally because of the California law with California having the most expensive eggs.
Klippen says the California law detrimentally impacts the consumer, the egg producing chickens themselves and violates federal law.
Missouri’s Attorney General Josh Hawley says California’s law is a clear attempt by big government proponents to imposed job killing regulations.
