Seventy ethanol companies including Redfield Energy LLC in Redfield, South Dakota have sent a letter to President Biden pledging to reach net zero carbon emissions by or before 2050. Redfield Energy Manager and American Coalition for Ethanol Board member Troy Knecht says it’ll be a challenge to get to that net zero emission figure and it will take biofuels inclusion to be able to achieve that.
He says it makes sense to have ethanol as part of the net zero emissions goals because it already is reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 52 percent compared to gasoline.
Knecht says it’s also critical that E-15 is being allowed to be offered year round and to encourage fuel retailers to offer it as that’s a key part of the net zero goal.
A recent study by the Department of Energy scientists found that ethanol’s carbon footprint shrunk by 23 percent between 2005 and 2019.
