The USDA has paid more than $7 Billion in Coronavirus Food Assistance 2 assistance to producers hurt by the pandemic. The top five states are Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Illinois and Kansas. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says there’s been a lot of economic damage to agriculture from many factors including the pandemic and this aid is greatly needed.

He says 2020 has been a very tough economic year for farmers and ranchers.

Hansen says to highlight just how tough 2020 has been, the first CFAP payments were $10 billion and this second round so far is $7 billion with sign up ending on it December 11. He says agriculture needs some other economic fixes in order to survive.

Since CFAP 2 started in September, the Farm Service Agency has approved more than 443,000 applications.
