South Dakota Senators Mike Rounds and John Thune are among members of a bipartisan group that have introduced the Product of the USA Beef Act legislation. Rounds says the bill limits the use of the Product of the USA label only to beef products that are born, raised and slaughtered in the United States.

The measure is endorsed by the U.S. Cattlemen’s Association, R-CALF, South Dakota Farmers Union and South Dakota Stock Grower’s Association. USCA President Brooke Miller says the bill is important because it allows U.S. beef to be distinguished from beef from competing countries.

Round says it’s taken far too long to establish the Product of the USA label.

Thune says South Dakota cattle ranchers work hard to produce some of the highest quality beef in the world and they deserve to proudly showcase their products with accurate labeling.
