South Dakota Senators John Thune and Mike Rounds along with 16 of their colleagues wrote to the EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt asking for a timeline for a Reid Vapor Pressure Rule waiver. The Senators who support year-round use of E15 also requested the sale of the ethanol blend for this summer’s driving season. South Dakota Corn Growers Association President Troy Knecht says its critical both of those requests are granted.
He says the timeline request makes sense to keep the issue from being left on hold indefinitely.
Knecht says the next important issue that needs to be addressed is to limit the amount of RFS waivers given to refiners.
In their letter to administrator Pruitt, the Senators noted Congress never intended the RVP waiver to effectively be a market cap on the amount of ethanol blended into gasoline. Rather the provision was intended to provide a pathway for ethanol to grow and thrive in the fuel marketplace.
