A trio of Senators from Wisconsin and New York are asking the Trump Administration to act against trade barriers restricting U.S. dairy farmers product access to Canadian markets. South Dakota Dairy Producers Association Executive Director Roger Scheibe says they share the same concern about Canada’s milk pricing scheme and are hoping the administration takes action.

He says resolution on the issue is needed quickly and well before NAFTA re-negotiations take place.

A spokesman for Dairy Farmers of Canada says they don’t feel good about U.S. farms going out of business, but added it’s not their responsibility and instead up to the U.S. to manage their own production. Scheibe says that type of response doesn’t solve anything.

The Senators have written to the Trump administration as well as to the Acting U.S. Trade Representative and Acting Ag Secretary about the milk pricing problem.
