Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says he wants a pair of federal agencies to work together on reviewing anti trust implications and the effect on farmers from some mega ag company mergers. He’s written to both the Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission concerning the Dow DuPont and Chem China Syngenta mergers.

He says if the Justice Department and FTC fail to work together on reviewing the mergers the true impact on agriculture won’t be known.

Grassley says even though E.U. regulators are investigating the Dow DuPont merger, that won’t help spur investigations in the U.S..

Grassley says the proposed mergers if allowed to go through will decrease competition and increase costs for both farmers and consumers.
