Senator To Introduce Producer Privacy Bill

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says he’s concerned EPA is moving forward with a measure that will allow them to release more private and personal information of farmers and ranchers. He says Monday the agency went ahead with a proposed rule that will allow them to release private information from any producer who needs a national pollutant discharge elimination permit.
Grassley says not only will he continue to monitor EPA on this issue going forward but during the next legislative session in 2015, he’ll be introducing a bill known as the Producer Privacy Protection Act to reign in the agency on releasing any personal or private information.
Grassley says his legislation would have a better chance of passing if he could attach it to a farm bill. He says in lieu of that, he’ll likely try to get it attached to an appropriation rider in the new Congress.
