Agriculture has not been a campaign priority for Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump and very little is known about his policy agenda regarding the industry. South Dakota Senator John Thune, who also serves on the Senate Ag Committee, says if Trump becomes President he will make sure that the new Commander in Chief at least allows an open dialogue regarding policy.
Thune says it’s unfortunate that neither of the presidential candidates have been talking about agriculture, especially with the large impact it has on the economy.
Trump has given a few more clues about his trade agenda and has been publically critical of the current trade agreements, which is a bit of a concern to the Senator.
Thune hopes they can make some changes to the Trans Pacific Partnership that will pacify Trump if he becomes President and allow the deal to be approved.
