Speculation continues to grow on who President-elect Donald Trump will name as the new Agriculture Secretary. Names circulating this week as leading candidates include former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue and former California Lt. Governor Abel Maldonado. And just yesterday Indiana farmer and agri-businessman Kip Tom was seen leaving Trump Towers. South Dakota Senator John Thune believes President-elect Trump is getting close to naming a new head for the USDA.

He says whoever is named to the position must realize the importance of agriculture as a job creator and economic driver.

Thune says it’s important for Trump to name a new Ag Secretary soon, as work will begin shortly on the next farm bill.

Thune says he’s looking forward to working with the next Agriculture Secretary.
