Nebraska State Senator John Stinner of Gering is spearheading debate over a potential bill that would create a state-run, economic early warning system for Nebraska communities.

Stinner, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, says the goal of such a system would be to warn Nebraska communities, especially smaller ones, when they come close to exceeding their budgets

Stinner says he recognizes the plan may run afoul of lawmakers who see the plan discouraging economic investment in certain communities

Stinner admits that he doesn’t have a good work-around for that particular critique but hopes to iron out that and many other issues at a meeting with lawmakers at the Capitol.
