Tuesday, U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman met with the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance Committees to talk trade. He told lawmakers the key to moving trade deals like the Trans Pacific Partnership is passing Trade Promotion Authority. Senate Finance Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa says for TPA to be approved President Obama will have to show more leadership.
Grassley says the President also needs to work diligently to convince Congress he needs this authority.
TPA is facing stiff opposition from some farm groups as well as labor unions and even members of Obama’s own party.
