Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley sees enhanced trade opportunities with China and says this weekend’s visit by Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue should help with that. He says the best chance for increased trade is with beef which was announced earlier and Chinese consumer’s appetites for the product.
Grassley is hoping on his visit Secretary Perdue will be able to talk to the Chinese about lifting biotech restrictions.
He says earlier conversations between Chinese officials and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross seemed to indicate lifting of those restrictions would be a future possibility.
The Ag Secretary is scheduled to talk about market access issues with China’s Ag Minister on Friday and also meet with the country’s Vice Premier to talk about trade during the visit.
