Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley met with EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt on Tuesday. He’s pleased the administrator has move ahead with rescinding of the Waters of the U.S. rule. Grassley says Pruitt likely will move towards giving states more leeway over regulation of navigable waters. He says currently those rules are still pretty murky however.
He’d like the Supreme Court to determine more clearly who has jurisdiction over regulation of navigable waters, states or the federal government.
Grassley says Congress should step in and define it but likely won’t. He also intends to speak with the EPA administrator about more clearly defining who has jurisdiction over environmental protection of navigable waters.
Grassley participated in a roundtable discussion Tuesday in Des Moines with the EPA administrator, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and several farm group representatives.
