A state senator says it appears it is up to Nebraska voters to cut property taxes.
Senator Steve Erdman of Bayard says he will concentrate his efforts on the initiative petition seeking to place his proposal on the November ballot. The proposal would give property owners a refundable income tax credit equal to half the property taxes paid which fund public schools. Erdman says the lack of action this legislative session gives a boost to the initiative petition. . .
Erdman doesn’t worry about such a drastic cut in state revenue. . .
Lawmakers could get another crack at the property tax issue if enough legislators agree to return for a special legislative session.
