The Senate Ag Committee will be holding a Farm Bill Round Table in Grand Island, Nebraska on Thursday. Committee Chair Pat Roberts says it’s important to gather input from the farmers that will be using the program, especially in these tough economic times.
He says more importantly they’re committed to getting the bill done before the current law expires on September 30.
Roberts says he’s hoping to move the bill through the committee and on to the floor yet in May.
Roberts doesn’t anticipate wholesale changes in the new farm legislation. The Chairman and Ranking Member have also made it no secret that they’re not interested in including SNAP reform in the Senate version of the program.
