The Senate easily passed the 2018 farm bill yesterday. However, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley voted against the bill because it was stripped of his payment limitation measure. He says the current bill doesn’t close off the loopholes that give farm payments to the larger producers.
He says the main reason he had to vote against the farm bill is because nieces and nephews will be allowed to get farm payments and the loophole for those farm subsidies is growing.
Grassley says Chairman Pat Roberts did a good job of writing the bill except for caving in to House Ag Chairman Mike Conaway who pushed payments for large producers.
Tuesday afternoon, the Senate without debate voted 87 to 13 to approve the farm bill.
