Thursday the Senate approved a comprehensive energy bill. Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw says the most positive part of the legislation is it did not include any anti-RFS amendments. He says Senators prevented that from happening.
Shaw says the next step is the House-Senate conference committee, where they’ll monitor that debate to make sure any anti-renewable energy amendments don’t resurface.
Shaw says one of the important provisions of the Senate energy legislation calls for fuel efficient vehicles and follows recent café standards. Those call for 54 mile per gallon vehicles in the next several years.
Senators overwhelmingly approved the energy bill Thursday on an 85 to 12 vote.
