The timeline for ratification of the USMCA by Congress won’t begin until the President sends the deal up to the Senate and House. That’s according to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley whose panel has authority over trade agreements.
He says for ratification to be completed the Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum the U.S. placed on Mexico and Canada must be removed.
Grassley says the Democrats must realize that even if the Republicans compromise with them on the USMCA, they won’t take the deal back to the negotiating table with Canada and Mexico.
Grassley says it is important that the USMCA eventually gets ratified.
