Time is waning in Congress with less than 30 days left for them to settle issues on the agricultural agenda including ratification of the USMCA trade agreement. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa says he’s getting concerned about the lack of time for getting that needed trade deal over the finish line.
He says the US Trade Representative needs to be cautious about kowtowing to Democrat’s USMCA concerns and coming up with something Republicans may disagree about.
As far as attaching Multi Employer Pension legislation to USMCA to get Democrat’s support, Grassley says he’d like to see that dealt with separately from the trade agreement.
Mexico has already signed off on the USMCA trade pact and Canada is expected to follow suit soon. That leaves the U.S. Congress yet to decide. Grassley says they’ve been working with the House Speaker to try and get her to bring it up for a vote yet this year.
