Senate Finance Chairman Chuck Grassley is joining a pair of his Senate colleagues in backing legislation to cut back Executive office powers on emergency declarations related to tariffs. He says one thing that needs correcting has to do with Section 232 tariffs.
He says the issue is larger than tariffs, it involves Congress relinquishing much of its powers to the office of the President.
Grassley says if there’s any constitutional crisis the blame lies with Congress and not the President as it’s Congress that’s given up its authority.
The talk about Presidential authority and tariffs recently came up following the latest dispute between Mexico and the U.S. over the border issue. That dispute was settled over the weekend when Mexico agreed to increase its border protections.
