Senate EPW Committee Looks at Future of RFS

The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee held a hearing yesterday looking at the future of the Renewable Fuels Standard.  The current blending levels will sunset after 2022 leaving the government with the authority to set the Renewable Volume Obligations.  Iowa Senator Joni Ernst says a robust RFS will be needed to achieve the carbon reduction goals being touted by the Biden Administration.

She says the push to electric vehicles will not be fast or achievable without the bridge laid by renewable fuels.  That industry needs certain provided by the RFS.

Ernst says the RFS also helps the U.S. achieve independence from foreign oil.

She added that the RFS nor are RIN prices responsible for the higher gas prices consumers are currently facing at the pump.  Instead, it is directly tied to the higher cost of crude oil.
